Wednesday morning I’m heading out for the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) Conference in Dallas, Texas. Though I’ve been to national conferences before, familiarity never stops me from turning into a puddle of nerves. Add in the fact that I’m a finalist for the ACFW Genesis Contest for unpublished writers and maybe you can understand why I’m a complete basket case.

But, even with the nerves, I’m excited to see many of my writer friends. It’s always fun to hang around with other people who think talking to imaginary friends is a good thing.

I’ve been reading the devotional Jesus Calling by Sarah Young and today’s page (September 18) really spoke to me. “Seek to please Me above all else. Let that goal be your focal point as you go through this day. Such a mind-set will protect you from scattering your energy to the winds.”

So true.

Part of my heart will be left home with my family and friends who have been praying me through this long journey for years. And also with friends who are walking their young son through a Psalm 23 journey. We are all on a journey of sorts. I’m thankful that whether we are traveling through green pastures, still waters, or shadowed valleys, God never–EVER–lets go of our hands.

If you are interested in following the awards ceremony on Saturday, it begins at 6 pm CDT and you can watch the live blog feed at http://www.acfw.com/conference/liveblog.shtml. You can even sign up for an e-mail reminder.

Have a great week!
