For me, historical research usually entails hours spent chasing rabbit trails through Google or leafing through dusty history books. But every once in awhile, authors get to hit the road and experience history first-hand and it is sheer joy. This past weekend I got to do just that by visiting LeMay America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington.
This fantastic collection of over 350 automobiles is housed in a beautiful 4-story structure. It includes vehicles from the early 1900s through today, but I specifically went in search of the Ford Model T. The T plays a prominent role in my upcoming debut novel, Mistaken, which releases in July 2013 from Abingdon Press. I wanted to double-check some of my facts about the iconic car and LeMay didn’t disappoint. They had a fleet of model Ts from various years and it was everything I could do not to hop the ropes and try one out, myself. If you ever get the opportunity to visit this museum, I highly recommend it. I do NOT recommend hopping the ropes.
You can see a complete collection of my photos on my author page on Facebook. Click here to see photos of LeMay’s vehicles from 1900s-1930s. There were many later models, also, but as you can see…I was a little single-minded. I’ll save the newer vehicles for another trip.
Blessings!
