I’m very excited to tell you about this new release from one of my all-time favorite authors, Sarah Sundin. With Every Letter is a fantastic addition to Sundin’s repertoire of World War II romances. In her original three-book series, the Wings of Glory, three brothers spend the war as B-17 bomber pilots, flying headlong into both love and war. With Every Letter is the first of the new Wings of the Nightingale series which follows three World War II flight nurses as they discover friendship, love, and peril in the skies and on the shores of the Mediterranean.
Back cover copy: Lt. Mellie Blake is looking forward to beginning her training as a flight nurse. She is not looking forward to writing a letter to a man she’s never met–even if it is anonymous and part of a morale-building program. Lt. Tom MacGilliver, an officer stationed in North Africa, welcomes the idea of an anonymous correspondence–he’s been trying to escape his infamous name for years.
As their letters crisscross the Atlantic, Tom and Mellie develop a unique friendship despite not knowing the other’s true identity. When both are transferred to Algeria, the two are poised to meet face-to-face for the first time. Will they overcome their fears and reveal who they are, or will their future be held hostage by their pasts?
Combining a flair for romance with excellent research and attention to detail, Sarah Sundin vividly brings to life the perilous challenges of WWII aviation, nursing–and true love.
I felt so connected with the characters of Mellie and Tom that when I was forced to put the book aside to finish an important project (sheer torture), my mind continued drifting back to them. I missed them like I would a couple of old friends, laughing as I discovered myself wondering how they were doing–as if they were real people. Sundin’s thorough research is evident throughout the story, from the lush settings to the intricate details of engineering, nursing, and wartime history.
The second book of the Wings of the Nightingale series, On Distant Shores doesn’t arrive on shelves until June of 2013. It’s going to be a LONG wait.
Karen – thank you so much! I’m glad you liked Tom & Mellie and their story. And I’m thrilled to be working on the Hope Chronicles with you!!!
Sarah, You did a stunning job with this novel. The last two weeks (finishing a MS and preparing for ACFW) have been pure torture because I had to put Tom & Mellie’s story down part way through. I should know better than to start one of your books without having the time to finish it–but I couldn’t help myself! I hope we get to spend more time with them in book 2 and 3. 🙂
